Leaders of the All Progressives Congress in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State have urged state and national leaders of the party to rally all members behind its governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of the August 8, 2026, election.
Oyebamiji, the party’s flagbearer, emerged through a consensus process, with all other aspirants reportedly stepping down in his favour.
However, concerns have emerged that some party members dissatisfied with the outcome of the governorship primary may no longer be fully committed to the party’s campaign as political activities intensify towards the poll.
Rising from a meeting, the APC Leaders’ Forum in the local government called for unity among party members, stressing that Oyebamiji must enjoy the full support of the party to secure victory.
The call was contained in a communiqué issued by the forum’s co-conveners, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye and Tunji Adesokun, and obtained by our correspondent in Osogbo on Sunday.
The forum said that if party members could come together and present a united front, Oyebamiji would win the election without difficulty.
In the communiqué, the forum described Oyebamiji as a loyal, committed and highly experienced politician, adding that his success at the polls must be pursued with unity of purpose.
The group appealed to party leaders at both the state and national levels to work assiduously to harmonise all interests and opinions within the party to ensure electoral success.
“We are approaching a major election, and we must ensure that we go into the poll as a united and cohesive group.
“The choice of Oyebamiji as the party’s candidate has made the task easier, but our leaders at both the state and national levels must still work hard to prevent internal sabotage.
“We, the members of the forum, are fully aligned with the choice of Oyebamiji as our flagbearer, and we will mobilise across the grassroots for his victory,” the communiqué partly read.
The forum restated an earlier agreement reached by APC leaders in the local government that all members should relinquish allegiance to other aspirants once the party produces a candidate, irrespective of the constitutional mode of selection.
While commending party leaders for ensuring a peaceful primary, the forum urged them to reconcile aggrieved members to strengthen the party’s chances at the poll.
It added that available indications suggested that the electorate were yearning for the return of the APC in the state, but warned that party members must shun divisive tendencies.
“With the dedication of members, the forum believes that victory for the APC at the poll will be easier,” it stated.
The forum also commended President Bola Tinubu, the national chairman of the party, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda; the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola; the national secretary of the party, Senator Ajibola Basiru; the state party chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal; and the leader of the APC Elders’ Forum in the state, Pa Sola Akinwunmi, among others, for their commitment to the growth of the party.
