Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has approved and released ₦5 billion for the payment of outstanding gratuities and death benefits owed to retirees and beneficiaries in the state.
The approval was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the Commissioner for Information and Re-orientation, Barr. Zainab Usman Jalingo, and posted on the state government’s X handle.
According to the statement, the funds are meant to settle long-standing gratuity and death benefit obligations owed to retirees and families of deceased public servants across the state.
“Following the release of the funds, the Ministry of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning has announced that the screening exercise for eligible beneficiaries will commence on Monday, 2nd February, 2026, at the Ministry’s headquarters.
“The exercise will cover 2015 retirees, alongside a final mop-up of outstanding beneficiaries from the 2013 and 2014 cohorts, paving the way for immediate and transparent disbursement.
“Stakeholders, labour leaders, pensioners, and families of deceased workers have warmly commended Governor Agbu Kefas, describing the release of ₦5 billion as a defining moment of responsible governance and a decisive step toward restoring dignity to public service in Taraba State,” the statement read.
The commissioner said the payment formed part of the Kefas administration’s efforts to address inherited pension liabilities and improve workers’ welfare in the state.
She added that the state government remained committed to meeting its obligations to workers and retirees and to strengthening public confidence in governance.
