Activist, Omoyele Sowore and Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, have condemned the killing of at least 162 residents of the Woro community in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
In a statement on X on Wednesday, Sowore and Ahmad described the attack as horrific and unacceptable.
Sowore alleged that the victims were killed during a bloody assault by a terrorist group identified by locals as “Memuda.”
He accused security agencies of failing to respond to distress calls or provide protection to the community, despite what residents said were prior warnings.
According to Sowore, community sources revealed that the village head had earlier alerted security authorities after the group reportedly informed residents that they were coming to “preach.” He alleged that no preventive deployment was made, leaving the community exposed when the attackers eventually struck.
On his part, Ahmad described the killings as “beyond any form of comprehension,” saying no words of condemnation could adequately capture the scale of the tragedy.
“The perpetrators of this heinous act cannot be described in any human terms,” Ahmad said.
“I hope that when our authorities eventually capture them, justice will be served in full measure and they will face consequences commensurate with the gravity of their crimes,” he added.
The Kwara State government had confirmed the attack, which reportedly led to the death of at least 162 persons on Tuesday.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the deployment of military personnel to Kaiama Local Government, Kwara State.
