The finalists for the football event of the Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games 2026 are set to compete in February following a week-long competition among 15 companies in Port Harcourt, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority will battle for the gold medal at the national finals in Abuja next month.
NLNG reached the final after defeating Nigerian National Petroleum Company 5-4 on penalties following a goalless draw in the first semi-final at the Renaissance pitch in Port Harcourt.
NMDPRA also advanced via penalties, defeating Oando 5-3 after their encounter ended 1-1 after regulation time.
The losers will feature in the third-place match to be held at the national finals in Abuja.
Chairman of the Local Organising Committee NOGIG 2026, Dr Sulaiman Sulaiman, said he was fulfilled after six days of competition.
“The success of the preliminaries held in Port Harcourt is a dress rehearsal ahead of the main event in Abuja, adding that all hands must be on deck to deliver a memorable NOGIG games starting from February 8, 2026, in Abuja,” Sulaiman said.
NLNG goalkeeper Babatunde Atolabi said his team had prepared for the penalty shootout.
“When it got to penalties, the plan was for me to stop their penalties, and that was exactly what I did, and we won,” Atolabi said.
