The World Health Organisation of the African region said each year, an estimated 178,000 mothers and one million newborns die in the African region—many from preventable causes.
The health body made this known on Monday in a release to commemorate World Health Day, celebrated on April 7 annually.
This year’s campaign focuses on improving maternal and newborn health and survival with the theme “Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures”.
