The Vice-Chairman of Tsafe Local Government Area in Zamfara State, along with 64 other abducted persons, have regained their freedom after being held by bandits.
The development was reported in a post shared on X on Thursday by security analyst Zagazola Makama.
According to the post, the victims returned safely to Tsafe on Tuesday following sustained efforts by security operatives and local stakeholders to secure their release.
The abduction followed a deadly ambush on January 20 in Danjibga village, where bandits attacked the community and engaged in a gun battle with members of the Community Protection Guard.
During the attack, one Community Protection Guard operative and two residents were killed, while two others sustained gunshot injuries.
The attackers also set four vehicles ablaze, including two Golf cars and two Mitsubishi Canter trucks.
Although the released victims have reunited with their families, the post noted that an unspecified number of women and children are still believed to be in captivity.
Makama added that the freed victims, alongside those injured during the attack, were taken to the Ahmed Sani Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital in Gusau for medical attention.
The return of the abductees brought relief to the community, even as residents continued to mourn those who lost their lives in the violence.
In a related incident, another bandit attack in Bakura Local Government Area reportedly claimed the life of a 22-year-old farmer, Burhama Sani.
He was said to have been shot dead on his farm along the Bakura–Rabah road after bandits blocked the Fadamma axis and set two vehicles carrying food items ablaze.
