A teenager identified as Chidera has been killed during a suspected robbery attack in the Mmiata Anam area of Anambra State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Monday.
An anti-cultism advocacy platform, Naija Confra, stated in a post on Thursday that Chidera was allegedly accosted by a group of boys said to be from the Umuoba community.
The platform further stated that the assailants reportedly demanded money from him and attempted to rob him.
He was, however, said to have been killed in the course of the attack.
“Earlier today, Naija Confra reported an incident in Mmiata Anam, Anambra State, where a young boy named Chidera was killed. The incident occurred two nights ago when the victim was reportedly stopped by a group of boys from Umuoba, who demanded money and attempted to rob him. During the robbery, he was killed.”
The platform added that residents of the community gave differing accounts of the incident.
“While some residents claimed the incident was cult-related, others we spoke to were certain it had nothing to do with cultism, stating that it was a robbery, although some confirmed the robbers were cultists. Naija Confra later gathered that the killers had been arrested by Mmiata,” the platform stated.
Efforts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, proved abortive, as calls to his telephone lines were not answered. A text message sent to him had yet to be replied to as of the time this report was filed.
PUNCH Metro reported in December that four persons lost their lives in a violent attack that occurred on Sunday near the Afor Market Junction in the Nawfia community, Njikoka Local Government Area of the state.
