Troops of the Nigerian Army have disrupted an attempted armed robbery along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway, leading to the arrest of one suspect during a swift response operation.
The incident involved personnel of 1 Division, Nigerian Army, under Sector 1 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, who were on routine patrol when they received a distress call reporting an ongoing robbery at Nasarawan Doka.
Confirming the development in a statement on Wednesday, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Shuaib Umar, said the troops immediately moved to the scene and engaged the criminals.
“On arrival, the troops confronted the armed robbers and successfully neutralised the threat,” Umar stated.
According to the army, one of the suspects, identified as Kabiru Zayyanu, was apprehended during the encounter after sustaining a gunshot wound to the leg, and was subsequently taken to Doka General Hospital, where he received first aid treatment.
Umar added that other members of the gang escaped into nearby areas, prompting a hot pursuit by the troops, although no further contact was made.
“No casualty or abduction was recorded during the operation,” the statement noted.
The army said the arrested suspect would be handed over to the appropriate security agency for further investigation and prosecution once preliminary inquiries are concluded.
Reassuring the public, Umar said troops continue to maintain a strong security presence along the highway and surrounding areas to deter criminal activities.
“The Nigerian Army remains resolute in safeguarding lives and property and urges members of the public to promptly report any suspicious movements to security agencies,” he added.
