A suspected drug peddler and member of a criminal gang has been killed during a police operation in Sabuwar Anguwa area of Katsina Local Government Area, Katsina State.
Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, disclosed the development in a post on his X handle on Monday.
According to the report, operatives of the Central Market Surveillance Team, led by ASP Audu Isah, carried out the raid at about 10:00 p.m. on December 27, 2025, following credible intelligence.
During the operation, the police arrested one Uzairu Abubakar, also known as Uzairu Kuda, identified as a notorious drug dealer and a member of the Kauraye miscreant group.
Makama, citing security sources, said the suspect was found in possession of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, Pregabalin tablets, and Colorado.
The sources said the suspect resisted arrest and raised an alarm, prompting other gang members to attack the police team. In the process, the assailants reportedly damaged the rear windscreen of a covert Honda Jazz vehicle.
During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly drew a knife and stabbed the second-in-command of the surveillance team, ASP Ibrahim Yusuf, on the neck.
In response, the officer fired his weapon, injuring the suspect. He was rushed to the General Hospital in Katsina, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead.
Exhibits recovered during the operation included the suspected drugs and the knife. The body was later released to the family for burial.
Police sources said investigations are ongoing, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend other members of the gang.
