Operatives of the Benue State Police Command have successfully thwarted a suspected kidnapping operation and rescued a woman alongside her daughter in Tsegbum Community, located off Naka Road in Makurdi.
Security sources disclosed that the incident took place around 2:20 a.m. on Wednesday when armed assailants reportedly forced their way into the home of Mrs. Kate Ijuo, 42, with the intention of abducting her and her child.
According to a sources from the command, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of ‘D’ Division, Makurdi, was alerted through an emergency distress call from the victim and immediately deployed a combined security team.
The response team comprised police operatives, personnel of the OPS Zenda Joint Task Force, Anti-Cult unit, and Cybercrime patrol.
The sources explained that upon noticing the arrival of security operatives, the suspects fled the scene, leaving the intended victims behind.
“The victims were rescued unhurt, while efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and effect their arrest,” the command said.
The police command further advised residents to stay alert at all times and promptly alert security agencies of any suspicious activities within their neighbourhoods.
