The Lagos State Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspected armed robbers and the recovery of firearms and ammunition in separate intelligence-driven operations carried out in Ajegunle and Ojo areas of the state.
According to a statement released on Wednesday and signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abibola Adebis, the first arrest was made in Ajegunle after the police received credible intelligence about the activities of suspected hoodlums who allegedly use commercial motorcycles while armed to rob unsuspecting members of the public.
Acting on the information, operatives of the Command Tactical Team, code-named Thunder Blast, were swiftly deployed to the area, leading to the arrest of one Waheed Orelope, a 27-year-old male.
A locally fabricated pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from the suspect during preliminary investigations.
In a related operation, intelligence reports indicated that suspected hoodlums had taken over the Iyana Iba Under Bridge axis in Ojo, posing a serious threat to commuters and residents.
The Surveillance Team of the Ojo Police Division was immediately mobilised to the location, resulting in the arrest of one Wasiu Shonibare, a 29-year-old male. A locally made pistol was recovered from him during the operation.
Both suspects are currently in police custody, while investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of their involvement and to track down other members of the suspected criminal network.
The Command assured that further updates would be provided as investigations progress.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to proactive policing and the protection of lives and property across the state.
