The Edo State Police Command has arrested one Amadin William for allegedly killing his Europe-based childhood friend identified as Eghosa Osarietinomwan.
DAILY POST reports that the Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, disclosed this to newsmen on Sunday in Benin-City.
Ikoedem also confirmed that two other persons were arrested following a reprisal attack by angry youths that greeted the killing.
The angry youths in the community were reported to have set the suspect’s house ablaze.
The police spokesperson said the murder suspect has been taken into custody.
“The deceased sustained deep machete cuts on the neck after stepping out to ease himself during the house-warming celebration.
“He was rushed to the hospital for treatment, where he was confirmed dead.
“The suspect, after committing the crime, absconded and went into hiding but was tracked and arrested on December 27.
“Meanwhile, two other persons have been arrested in connection with the arson that followed the incident,” she said.
DAILY POST learnt that the killing of Eghosa Osarietinomwan, a Europe-based man took place in Oben community, Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State.
The suspect was said to be the deceased’s childhood friend.
The suspect was said to have lured the victim to a bush path during his house-warming ceremony on December 22, 2025, where he allegedly attacked him with a machete.
The suspect was said to have fled the community shortly after the incident but was later apprehended in Benin City.
It was further learnt that the deceased had returned from Europe to celebrate the Yuletide with his family before the tragic incident occurred.
Following the attack, angry youths in the community reportedly set the suspect’s house ablaze.
