A nursing student, Stella Joseph, has been arrested by the Niger State Police Command in connection with the sudden death of Otori Abdulfatai Aiyede, a lecturer at a higher institution in Niger State.
It was gathered that the deceased lecturer, on January 27, 2026, travelled from Bida to Minna and visited Stella Joseph at her residence along Niteco Road, Tunga, to introduce himself.
During the visit, he was reportedly served a plate of spaghetti and egg.
Shortly after eating the food, the lecturer allegedly convulsed, collapsed, and was rushed to the General Hospital, Minna, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
As of the time of filing this report, the actual institution where the deceased lectured initially generated confusion.
While some reports claimed he was a lecturer at Newgate University, Minna, the management of the institution has since debunked the claim.
However, DAILY POST reliably learnt that the deceased was a lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger State.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said in a statement that on January 27, 2026, at about 10:00 a.m., police received a report that Abdulfatai Aiyede came to Minna from Bida and visited a friend identified as Stella Joseph.
According to him, during the visit, Stella allegedly served the victim food, after which he convulsed and collapsed.
“The victim was taken to the General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead,” Abiodun said.
He added that Stella Joseph was arrested, while the corpse has been deposited for medical examination to ascertain the cause of death.
“The families have been contacted, and the case is under investigation. Further developments will be communicated,” the statement added.
