Commuters and other road users on the Odo Iyaloro Bridge near Maryland, Lagos, were stranded for hours on Friday.
Several road users attributed the flooding and resulting severe traffic congestion to blocked drainage channels.
Although the rainfall was light, water accumulated on the bridge after the drainage system failed to discharge it, significantly slowing vehicular movement.
The disruption led to a spillover of traffic onto the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and extended through Ikorodu Road, compounding delays for motorists travelling toward Maryland and surrounding areas.

Some drivers attributed the incident to poor drainage maintenance and called on the relevant authorities to clear the blocked channels to prevent a recurrence.
