Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, says his government will continue to work closely with the Nigeria Police to maintain peace and improve security across the state.
The governor stated this during a visit to the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, at the state police headquarters.
The visit, according to a statement by his Spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, was meant to strengthen cooperation and understanding between the state government and the police.
Governor Yusuf said insecurity was one of the major problems he met when he came into office, but noted that the situation has improved under CP Bakori’s leadership.
He stressed that Kano belongs to everyone and warned that political differences should never be allowed to threaten peace and safety in the state.
According to him, politicians must put public safety above party interests, even when there are disagreements.
“As politicians, we may belong to different platforms, but on matters of security, we must unite under one umbrella for the good of Kano,” the governor said.
He assured the police command of continued moral and institutional support from his administration and added that the people of Kano recognise and appreciate the efforts of the police in keeping the state peaceful.
In his response, CP Ibrahim Bakori described the governor’s visit as a strong sign of support and goodwill toward the police.
He said the governor’s encouragement and guidance since assuming office have helped the command record notable successes.
He also pledged that the police would continue to work hand in hand with the state government to sustain peace and security across Kano.
During the visit, the police commissioner presented three suspects accused of killing a mother and her children in the Dorayi-Chiranci area of Kano a few days earlier.
