Two people were killed and four others injured after unknown gunmen attacked a farm near an illegal mining site in Taran, Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, police have confirmed.
The attack occurred at about 11:30 pm on Thursday, January 29, at a site owned by the Ban Community of Barkin-Ladi LGA.
A police source said the assailants opened fire on people at the location before fleeing into the night.
Zagazola Makama reports that police received information about the incident at about 8 am on Friday, after which the Divisional Police Officer in Barkin-Ladi mobilised officers and led a team to the scene.
The injured victims were taken to Ntiang Clinic in Heipang for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the General Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Investigations have commenced, and efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack.
The Plateau State Police Command assured residents that it remains committed to protecting lives and property and to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
