The police have arrested a 32-year-old man over allegations of rape, sexual molestation, and impregnating his 13-year-old stepdaughter (name withheld) in Delta State. A pharmacist who allegedly sold abortion pills to the man has also been taken into custody.
The suspects are currently in police custody. The man confessed that he began having sexual relations with the girl, whose mother already had a child for him, in January 2024.
He admitted purchasing the abortion pills to terminate the pregnancy. According to him, “I bought it when she told me she had missed her period. I just wanted to flush it out. I got the drugs from a pharmacy.”
When asked how he obtained the drugs, he said, “I searched online on Google, bought it, and gave it to her to take.”
Narrating her ordeal, the 13-year-old girl said, “I was sexually molested by my stepfather. In January 2024, he called me into a room and started touching me. Even if I shouted, nobody would hear. He pulled down my pants, and there was no way I could escape. He started having sex with me.”
She added that the abuse continued every other night since January 2024.
The victim also revealed that the suspect bought abortion pills to terminate the pregnancy. “When he told me he wanted to buy drugs, I asked him which kind—was it abortion medicine? He said no, it was just to flush the system. He knew I hadn’t seen my period,” she said.
According to DAILY POST correspondent, the matter came to light when the victim asked the proprietress of her school questions that raised suspicions. This prompted the involvement of the Divisional Police Officer, Ugborikoko Division in Uvwie Local Government Area, CSP Temi Agberen Zuokumor, who acted swiftly to arrest the suspect.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrests, noting that the pharmacist’s detention is intended to serve as a warning to others who sell prescription drugs illegally. He said, “Prescription drugs should only be given when there is a valid prescription.”
