A multi-vehicle accident on the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway caused severe traffic disruption on Sunday afternoon, leaving several motorists stranded for hours.
The crash involved an overturned flour-laden truck, a Toyota Corolla, a Toyota RAV4 SUV, and two interstate Mazda buses travelling towards Mowe.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority confirmed the incident in a series of posts on its X handle.
According to LASTMA, the truck fell on its side, triggering a chain collision that blocked multiple lanes and led to immediate gridlock.
โA multiple vehicle crash involving a truck that fell on its side, a Corolla, an SUV (RAV4), and two loaded interstate Mazda buses has been reported on Kara Bridge inwards Mowe,โ the agency said.
Eyewitness accounts corroborated the incident, with one observer noting that the resulting traffic backlog extended as far back as the Secretariat area.

In a subsequent update, LASTMA said emergency responders were working to offload the flour and clear the expressway.
โAs transloading efforts are ongoing, all necessary resources are on the ground to ensure Safety and good Traffic flow.
โTraffic is currently backed up to Magodo/Secretariat on the expressway, and at Omole junction, and spilling on Ogunnusi Road. Our Officers are strategically located on this axis,โ the agency said.
It added that โpartial recovery of the vehicles involved in the accident at Kara Bridge inwards Mowe has been done, and more than one lane has been opened for vehicular movement.
โOur men are on hand to ensure the safety of other motorists and road users, while also ensuring smooth traffic flow in collaboration with officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (@FRSCNigeria).โ
LASTMA urged motorists already on the route to exercise patience as all hands are on deck to ensure the road is opened to traffic as soon as possible.
