Operatives of the 67 Police Mobile Force, PMF, on Monday evening thwarted an attempted attack by suspected armed bandits on Ugbobi community in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State.
Security sources disclosed to Zagazola Makama that the incident happened around 6:00 p.m. when the assailants reportedly stormed the village, triggering a swift response from PMF officers deployed to the area.
The sources said the mobile policemen confronted the attackers with superior firepower and also fired teargas canisters to break their advance.
“The visiting PMF personnel successfully forced the bandits to flee into nearby bushes,” the sources said.
Following the repelled attack, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Apa was said to have mobilised patrol teams and other tactical units to reinforce security in the community.
The teams subsequently combed adjoining bushes in an effort to trace and arrest the fleeing suspects.
Security sources added that measures are being sustained to secure the area and forestall further attacks, while residents have been urged to stay alert and report suspicious movements.
