Two people, including a soldier, were killed in the early hours of Friday when armed bandits attacked Unguwar Dahiru village in Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State.
According to Zagazola Makama, the attack occurred at about 1:20 am on January 31. Security patrol teams responded swiftly and engaged the attackers in a sustained gun battle, forcing them to flee the community.
The victims were identified as Shamsu Rilwan, 22, and Abubakar Mohammed, 22, a soldier attached to the Military Super Camp in Faskari who was returning from leave at the time of the attack.
Their bodies were taken to the General Hospital in Funtua, where a medical doctor confirmed them dead.
Security agencies have commenced efforts to track down and arrest those responsible for the attack, while residents have been advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to the authorities.
