The Kano State Police Command, working together with other security agencies, has impounded 104 commercial motorcycles and 68 tricycles while arresting 172 suspects for violating the state’s traffic regulations.
This was contained in a statement issued by Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
According to the statement, the action was part of ongoing efforts to enforce the ban on passenger transport on motorcycles (Achaba/Okada) and the restriction of tricycles from 10pm to 6am in the Kano State metropolis.
The operations, which took place from January 1 to 7, 2026, targeted riders and operators who flouted the restrictions. All arrested suspects have been charged to court for prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, expressed appreciation for the support of the people of Kano and commended the combined security agencies, including the Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA), for their commitment to enforcing the laws.
“The ban on passenger conveyance on motorcycles for commercial purposes and the restriction of tricycles from 10pm to 6am remains in place,” the police command said.
“We urge members of the public to comply with these regulations to ensure their safety and that of others.”
The affected local government areas include Kano Municipal, Gwale, Dala, Fagge, Nassarawa, Tarauni, Kumbotso, Ungogo (Jido Area), and Dawakin Kudu (Tamburawa, Gurjiya and Jido Ward).

The police reaffirmed the command’s commitment to public safety and security, stating that the authorities will continue to take necessary measures to enforce the motorcycle and tricycle ban.
The Kano State Police Command said the enforcement measures are part of broader efforts to reduce accidents, ensure road safety, and maintain order in the state.
“We appreciate the support and understanding of the good people of the state and commend the combined security agencies for their dedication to enforcing the ban and restriction,” CSP Kiyawa added.
The police have warned that the ban will continue to be enforced strictly, and violators will face arrest and prosecution.
