A Nigerian researcher, Isreal Onifade, has identified plant compounds that could help in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.
Onifade’s study found that certain plant alkaloids can block β-secretase, an enzyme linked to the buildup of harmful plaques in the brain.
These plaques, he said in a statement he signed on Wednesday, are a major cause of memory loss and cognitive decline in Alzheimer’s patients.
