Savannah Guthrie’s mom, Nancy Guthrie, has been reported missing in Arizona.
“This is very concerning to us. We don’t typically get the sheriff out at a scene like this. But it’s very concerning what we’re learning from the house,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said in a press conference on Sunday, February 1. “And so we’ll just continue. The detective’s homicide team is out right now looking at the scene as well.”
A 911 call came through on February 1 with a family member calling the police to report 84-year-old Nancy missing. She was last seen between 9:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. the night before.
“We’ve pretty much just thrown everything at this that we can,” Nanos continued, noting that Nancy “is not of good physical health, and so naturally that’s a great concern.”
Nanos and his team are “not” ruling out foul play and noted that there were “some concerns” about what had been found at Nancy’s home.
Savannah was noticeably absent from the Today news desk on Monday, February 2, with Sheinelle Jones joining Craig Melvin in her place. The coanchors addressed the “deeply personal story” before reading a statement from Savannah and her family.
“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support. Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom,” the statement read. “We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.”
