The drama, which is inspired by the Stephen King novel of the same name, follows a death row prison guard named Paul Edgecomb (Hanks) who witnesses supernatural events after a new convict (Michael Clarke Duncan) arrives at the facility.
Following its release in 1999, The Green Mile was a box-office success and received critical acclaim. The film was nominated for four Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Sound, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor for Duncan.
