Rapper Ice Spice raised eyebrows with her lingerie-inspired dress at The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants movie screening.
Ice Spice, 25, wore a long-sleeved, white lace dress to the Wednesday, December 17, debut of the upcoming Nickelodeon movie. The transparent frock showed off a white thong underneath.
She completed her look with a diamond cross necklace and wore her dyed-pink tresses in loose waves.
While Ice Spice appeared confident on the red carpet, fans across social media questioned whether the sheer ensemble was appropriate for a children’s movie.
“Ice Spice shows off her bikini bottom in see-through lace dress at SpongeBob Movie premiere,” one X user tweeted. “Is this appropriate for a kids movie?”
Another individual claimed that the look was “not classy at all,” tweeting, “Missed the mark on showing she’s a lady.”
“SpongeBob and lingerie don’t mix,” a third X user wrote.
While a handful of X users were shocked that Ice Spice wore a sheer look to a kid-friendly event, several supporters clapped back at the backlash.
“This was an invite only, private early screening of the SpongeBob movie for different influencers and streamers,” an Ice Spice fan account shared. “Not one kid was in attendance. So all that talk about her wearing that to an event with kids? Complete bulls***.”
Others gushed that the musician “looked good” in her lacy getup.
“Ice Spice gets finer by the day,” an Instagram commenter mused.
While Ice Spice has not addressed the fan criticism, she’s long been candid about finding her personal style.
“I feel like a lot of the time, stylists will not even match your energy,” she told The Cut in a February 2024 profile. “They’ll try to make you a new person, and I don’t f*** with that, you know?”
Now, Ice Spice picks ensembles that are authentically her.
“Once I brought it back to the real me and my roots, and I put my Jordans back on, and I just wore my natural hair, and I was just really being authentic to myself, that’s when my [music] views started going up again,” she told the outlet. “I was like, ‘Let me just be me.’”

Confidence is key to Ice Spice’s daily life — on and off the red carpet.
“The thing about Taylor [Swift] is that she keeps it so real,” Ice Spice told Nylon in September. “Every time we hang out, she’s not just giving me advice, you know what I mean? … Whenever I’m feeling doubtful or not as confident, having writer’s block no matter what it is, [getting advice] like that really, really stands out to me, [and] she said that to me a few years ago, and it still stood with me.”
Ice Spice has also been known to switch up her ‘do.
“Growing up and stuff, I did blonde and brown and black but I never did ginger, so, I don’t know, I just love it,” she said during a 2024 interview with the UK’s Kiss Fresh radio show, referring to her red curls. “I’m kind of stuck with it for a little bit, and I’m just happy it’s a good color that I like. I feel like it goes well with a lot of things. It’s just so cutesy.”
