Firerose has shared a recording that allegedly captures a disturbing moment with ex-husband Billy Ray Cyrus.
Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, January 20, Firerose, real name Johanna Rose Hodges, posted audio over two visual clips of the former couple. Captioned, “Behind closed doors,” the audio contained an exchange between a man and a woman.
“F*** you. You f***ing will not listen. You will not listen,” the man begins. “If you want to salvage anything about us, please sit on this couch. What the f*** are you going to do? What are you going to f***ing do?”
The woman, who is sobbing between words, then says, “Please, don’t, please,” before the man continues.
“See, you won’t shut your f***ing mouth. If you want me to stay, shut up, shut your f***ing mouth,” the man says. “You want me to stay, I’ll stay here and babysit you because that’s what I’ve signed up for. Stand there and cry. Why don’t you stand there and cry? You deserve every bit of this. You won’t f***ing stop, you are so selfish, the most selfish f***ing human being I’ve ever known, and I’ve known some selfish people.”
Us Weekly has reached out to a representative for Cyrus for comment.
The woman is later heard telling the man, “I don’t know when I’m allowed to talk and when I’m not,” to which the man responds, “Right now, you’re not [allowed to talk], stop. It’s not my f***ing fault.”
Firerose, 37, captioned the post with further accusations. “I spent years being terrified. I was trained to be afraid of what would happen if I even dared to think about sharing a glimpse of the truth I was living behind closed doors,” she wrote. “Over the years, my spirit was systematically worn down so that I became a shell of the person I was. That is always what happens with narcissistic abuse.”
The singer-songwriter, who was married to Cyrus from 2023 to 2024, continued, “It’s not an accident. It’s very much calculated so that the fear of sharing what’s really happening, overrides the agony of surviving it alone.”

Firerose and Cyrus struck up a friendship through a musical collaboration in 2021 while Billy Ray was still married to Tish Cyrus. (Billy Ray and Tish split in April 2022.)
Less than one year after exchanging vows in October 2023, Billy Ray filed for an annulment from Firerose in June 2024, citing irreconcilable differences and “inappropriate marital conduct” as the reason. In her own divorce filing that followed, Firerose accused Billy Ray of domestic abuse, claiming at the time that he was “unpredictable and volatile” due to alleged substance abuse issues.
Billy Ray denied all claims of wrongdoing and said in a statement to Us Weekly via his attorneys at the time, “If Mr. Cyrus was truly guilty of the allegations that Ms. Hodges alleges in her pleadings, then it is mind boggling to try and explain why she would want to return to live with him. Furthermore, she was pleading with him to give her a chance to explain everything to him.” He also accused Firerose of verbal, emotional and physical abuse.
