The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency , NDLEA Abia State Command, has carried out a sensitization programme at the Ehere Electronic Market in Obingwa local government area of Abia State. The programme is part of ongoing efforts to curb drug abuse and trafficking. Legal practitioner and public affairs analyst, Justice Osai Ahiakwo, has warned against what he described as renewed attempts to undermine democratic principles in Rivers State as the 2026 political year begins. Not less than seven persons have been reportedly killed by gunmen suspected to be Fulani bandits in Bong village of Doemak District in Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State. Executive Chairman of Qua’an-Pan LGA Christopher Audu Manship, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday issued on his behalf by his Director of Press and Publicity, Danaan Cletus Sylvanus, said the attackers specifically targeted Christians in the community. At least 25 people were feared dead in a canoe accident in Nguru Local Government Area of Yobe State, while 13 passengers were reportedly rescued and 14 others remain missing, according to a preliminary report by authorities. Nigeria’s banking sector recorded a rise in bad loans in 2025 after the Central Bank of Nigeria withdrew the regulatory forbearance granted to lenders during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the apex bank’s latest macroeconomic outlook report. The report showed that the banking industry’s Non-Performing Loans ratio climbed to an estimated seven per cent, exceeding the prudential benchmark of five per cent.
