The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday appealed against a Federal High Court’s judgement which nullified its revised timetable and schedule of activities for the conduct of the 2027 general elections. INEC, in a notice of appeal dated and filed on 25 May through its lawyer, Alex Izinyon, SAN, also filed a motion for stay of execution of the judgement, pending the hearing and determination of its appeal at the Court of Appeal. The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja has declared the rate of kidnapping and other violent crimes in the country as worrisome. The traditional ruler made this declaration on Monday during the installation of some Mogajis (family heads) and Baales in the ancient city. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emerged winner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary election in Ebonyi State after polling 15,300 votes in the exercise conducted across the state. The result was declared at Preston Hotel, which served as the state collation centre for the primary election. According to the official results released by the Ebonyi State Presidential Primary Election Committee, Atiku defeated former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, who secured 2,200 votes, while Muhammad Hayatudeen polled 200 votes. The Kano State Police Command has arrested a number of suspected drug dealers and seized quantities of Tramadol and Cannabis Sativa in a series of intelligence-driven operations across the state. This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday night by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa. According to the statement, the operations were carried out by officers of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) and the Gezawa Police Division following credible information provided by members of the public. Sycamore, a Lagos-based financial services company, has received a microfinance bank licence from the Central Bank of Nigeria, a move that gives its more than 400,000 customers direct access to deposit accounts and faster payment processing through the national payments infrastructure. The licence, granted to a new entity called Sycamore Microfinance Bank, allows the company to accept customer deposits under a regulated banking framework.
