Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Airport Police Command, have arrested a 20-year-old suspected internet fraudster for allegedly defrauding foreign victims, mostly in the United States, of about N1.25bn and several costly electronic gadgets. The suspect, Essien Akpama, was arrested on 5 January 2026 while attempting to board a flight out of Lagos State. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has resumed the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, marking the commencement of the second phase of the process. The exercise resumed on Monday after the first phase ended on December 10, 2025. INEC had earlier opened online pre-registration on August 18, 2025, before commencing physical registration at centres nationwide on August 25, 2025. The National Association of Nigerian Students on Tuesday called off its planned nationwide protest against the new Tax Reform Act following engagements with the Nigeria Revenue Service, formerly the Federal Inland Revenue Service, and other government agencies. The Rivers State Police Command said its operatives have arrested twelve suspects in connection with an attack on an estate in Mbodo, Aluu, in Ikwerre local government area of the state on Monday afternoon. The police said the armed assailants, who include members of a vigilante group code-named ‘OSPAC’ and hired thugs, invaded the estate in a commando manner, shot sporadically, damaging vehicles and parts of the estate.
