The Niger State Commissioner, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, has presented cheques to the tune of ₦56,942,985 to 20 families of deseaced police personnel who died in active service between  2023 and 2024. Presenting the cheques to the benefiacries in Minna, Elleman said the gesture is part of the IGP’s Group Life Assurance Scheme, aimed at supporting families of deceased officers. The Confederation of African Football, CAF, has named a new centre referee for the quarter-final tie between Nigeria and Algeria, DAILY POST reports. Senegalese official Issa Sy will now  take charge of game slated for the Grand Stade de Marrakech. Sy was in charge of VAR during Morocco’s Round of 16 encounter with Tanzania. Somali’s Omar Artan was earlier appointed to officiate the game. Artan, who was named best referee in Africa in 2025 was removed for reportedly violating CAF’s sponsorship rules. The Chairman of Agatu Local Government of Benue State, James Ejeh, has raised the alarm over what he described as the renewed wave of violent attacks in communities in the council area following the U.S. strikes on bandits in Sokoto, Sokoto State. He said the fresh attacks were being perpetrated by bandits who fled Sokoto after the strikes. Police operatives attached to the Assakio Division, in collaboration with local vigilantes, have successfully stormed kidnappers’ hideouts in Angara and Fadaman Bauna villages of Lafia East Development Area in the Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. The operation led to the arrest of six suspected kidnappers and the rescue of three victims—two females and one male. The Federal Government has proposed to spend N6.04bn on personnel costs for workers of the Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited in the 2026 budget, even though the steel plant has not produced a single sheet of steel for more than four decades after it was conceived. Details from the 2026 Appropriation Bill show that Ajaokuta was allocated a total of N6.69bn for the year, with personnel expenses alone accounting for N6.04bn, or about 90.4 per cent of the entire allocation.
