Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s visit to Rotimi Amaechi in Abuja on Thursday was publicly presented as a birthday courtesy call and an opportunity to discuss Nigeria’s economic and security challenges. Politically, however, the meeting represented an early attempt at coalition management. Coming just days after the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary, which Atiku won but which Mr Amaechi and fellow aspirant Mohammed Hayatu-Deen rejected as flawed, the visit has drawn attention as a bid to contain tensions within a party aiming to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027. Why Atiku moved quickly…
There is a specific kind of validation that academia confers and another that the world confers. The academy signals acceptance through citation, peer review, and the slow machinery of scholarly publication. The world signals it differently — through use. When a scholar picks up your framework, not merely to interrogate it, but to build with it, something important has shifted. That is not endorsement. That is adoption. That is what happened when Dr Omoniyi Ibietan — secretary general of the African Public Relations Association (APRA), fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), and doctoral faculty at Rome Business…
Nigerian singer Timi Dakolo has released a new single titled Brotherly, which encourages men to speak up about their struggles rather than keep them to themselves. The cover of Brotherly shows two people holding each other beneath the words “I Got You.” That image reflects the song’s message. Released on 29 May, Brotherly sees Timi Dakolo sing about the challenges many men face and the need for support during difficult times. The song moves away from love and relationships and focuses instead on everyday struggles that many listeners will recognise. Produced by Cobhams Asuquo, the song highlights the pressures men…

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has urged former President Goodluck Jonathan to say “no thank you” to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, factional presidential ticket. Keyamo explained that the PDP faction that gave Jonathan the presidential ticket is not recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. Recall that the Tanimu Turaki-led PDP had announced Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election. However, Keyamo urged Jonathan to reject the gesture for the sake of his global image. Posting on X, Keyamo wrote: “This is some kind of bizarre comedy taken too far by supposedly…
Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday joined Real Madrid and Ajax in an exclusive record after winning this season’s UEFA Champions League trophy. The Parisians defeated Arsenal on penalty shoot-out following a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes in Budapest. Kai Havertz and Ousmane Dembele scored the goals for their respective clubs during the encounter. However, the victory over Arsenal means PSG are only the third side ever to win both their league title and the UEFA Champions League in back-to-back seasons, after Real Madrid (1956-57/1957-58) and Ajax (1971-72/1972-73). PSG have already won the French Ligue 1 title this season before the Champions League final.…
The Labour Party on Sunday dismissed allegations of fraud and political sabotage levelled against it by a disqualified presidential aspirant, Peter Agada, who is demanding a refund of the N150 million paid to the party for his 2027 presidential nomination bid. Agada’s demand was conveyed through a petition issued in Abuja on Saturday by his Presidential Campaign Council, following his exclusion from the party’s presidential primary conducted on May 30. The council accused the party leadership of collecting Expression of Interest and Nomination fees from Agada despite knowing that he would not be allowed to contest because of the party’s…
