The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the Liberation People’s Party (LPP) as a political party and issue it a certificate of registration within 30 days. The appellate court overturned an earlier decision of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which had declined the reliefs sought by the political association. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps says it has arrested 39 suspects following a clampdown on an illegal organisation operating as a private guard company in Akwa Ibom State. The Ogun State Police Command has debunked reports of bandit attacks and invasions of communities and schools in parts of the state, clarifying that the recent arrest of 38 Ivorians in Atan-Ota was unrelated to banditry or terrorism. The South-East Representative on the board of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, Ugo Udezue, will commission a newly built basketball court in Abakaliki and host a three-day South-East Basketball Tournament in Ebonyi State from June 5 to 7.
