Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, has ordered the remand of five individuals standing trial over an alleged ritual attack on a 16-year-old boy in Ikire. The suspects were brought before the court following investigations into an incident involving Farouq Abdulahi Taiwo, a primary six pupil who reportedly survived an attempt on his life. Those arraigned were: Awotunde Saudat, Muyideen Olutoki, Fatai Abiodun, Usman Ademola and Ismaila Abiodun, all accused of conspiracy and attempted murder. A mental health expert and clinical psychologist with the Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta, Dr Olanrewaju Sodeinde, has called for more collaborative efforts to stem the rising tide of drug and substance abuse in the country, saying that over four million people in the South-West are believed to be struggling with drug abuse, according to a UNODC report. The Kwara State Fire Service on Saturday averted a major disaster after a petrol tanker conveying 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit caught fire at a filling station along the Ilorin–Jebba Expressway. The incident occurred at Olumo Filling Station, Oko-Olowo Junction, Ilorin, at about 2:31 pm. Four major aviation unions have issued a 14-day ultimatum to the management of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Zaria, warning that failure to conclude the long-delayed review of staff Conditions of Service will result in a total withdrawal of services across the institution. Israel on Saturday objected to the White House’s announced line-up for a Gaza executive committee, saying the move was not coordinated.
