An Egyptian firm, Utopia Pharmaceuticals, says it plans to establish a drug manufacturing plant in Abia State to serve Nigeria and the West African market. The company founder, Kamel Muhamed, disclosed this on Wednesday during a meeting with Governor Alex Otti of Abia, at Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of the state. The Kano State government has reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating the mother-to-child transmission of HIV, Hepatitis B and Syphilis through strengthened antenatal care services, early diagnosis and prompt treatment. The Commissioner for Health, Abubakar Yusuf, stated this on Thursday in Kano during a summit on the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of the three infections. Mr Yusuf said the infections are largely preventable, noting that syphilis can be completely cured when detected and treated early. Air Peace has suspended all flights to and from the Benin Airport following the temporary closure of the airport’s runway after a runway incursion.
