As Christians across Nigeria mark Christmas, commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ and his message of love, sacrifice, and redemption, political leaders, labour groups, and public officeholders have extended goodwill messages urging unity, compassion, and renewed hope. Felicitations President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, congratulated Nigerians, especially Christians, urging them to promote love, tolerance and generosity, while encouraging support for the government and optimism about Nigeria’s future. “I urge you all to exude love throughout this period and beyond,” Mr Akpabio said. “Let’s tolerate…
Former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami. The lesson is stark and unavoidable: the office you hold today will not protect you tomorrow. Immunity expires. Applause evaporates. Records remain. Misuse power, and humiliation will trail you long after the keys are returned. Steal public funds, and the shame will outlive your influence. He once rode through Abuja with blaring sirens, aides scrambling, admirers stretching their necks for a fleeting glimpse. Today, the same man answers questions in stark rooms, stripped of titles, power, and applause. In Nigeria, this scene is no longer shocking; it has become familiar. The fall…
The experience of watching a football match is a sacred ritual for millions. The visuals provide the drama, but the voice guiding the experience—the commentator—can either elevate it to an epic or render it an endurance test. This duality was on full display this past Wednesday during Nigeria’s match against Tanzania, where the commentary by former Super Eagles captain and coach, Sunday Oliseh, became a louder talking point than the on-pitch action for many viewers. Faced with his delivery, I found myself in a familiar viewer’s dilemma: mute the television or switch channels entirely. I opted to reduce the volume…
