Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has congratulated the governor-elect, Mohammed Umar Bago on his victory at the just-concluded Governorship and State Assembly elections held in the state. A 22-year-old-trader identified as Kingsley Isaac has been sentenced to three months in prison by a Dei-Dei Grade I Area Court on Monday in Abuja for stealing two chickens worth N8,000. The police charged Isaac with theft. The Area Court judge, Saminu Suleiman, offered Isaac a choice of N10,000 fine and N45,000 in restitution to the complainant. The prosecution attorney, Chinedu Ogada, informed the court that the conviction was for an offence that occurred on March 11. As part of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s ‘Grain from Ukraine’ humanitarian programme, Kenya received tens of thousands of metric tonnes of wheat to help combat a drought that is threatening the livelihoods of millions of people. The programme has delivered more than 140,000 tonnes of wheat to needy African Nations since November 2022. Accompanied by various dignitaries, Kenya’s deputy president, Rigathi Gachagua, received the shipment on Monday in Mombasa. According to the INEC, Sanwo-Olu polled 762,134 votes to defeat his closest challengers, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party (LP) and Abdulazeez Adediran of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who got 312,329 and 62,449 votes, respectively. The electoral officer in charge of Maradun Local Government Area in Zamfara State, Bashir Shagari, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen. Shagari, according to a source, was coming to INEC collation center in Gusau to deliver the results of the governorship election for Maradun Local Government when he was kidnapped along the road on Monday.
