The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has declared a second liquidation dividend of N24.3 billion for depositors of the defunct Heritage Bank, bringing the total payouts to N70.9 billion. Following allegations of medical negligence made by renowned Nigerian author Chimamanda Adichie against a hospital over the death of her 21-month-old son, Nigerians have taken to social media platform X to share personal experiences of wrong diagnosis, pressured surgeries and alleged hospital impropriety across the country. The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, has suspended its plan to commence strike on January 12. The suspension was announced in a statement issued on Sunday by Shuaibu Ibrahim, secretary-general of NARD. The association had earlier announced the strike in an update issued after its emergency national executive council (E-NEC) meeting held on January 2. NARD said it wanted to embark on the strike to press home their demands from the Federal Government.

The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce) has apprehended three men impersonating its officers while extorting money from unsuspecting motorists. Chairman, CSP Adetayo Akerele, confirmed the arrests in a statement signed by the agency’s spokesperson, Mr Abdulraheem Gbadeyan, on Sunday in Lagos. Akerele said the suspects, aged 39, 42 and 58, were caught on Tuesday at Ojodu Berger while attempting to detain a motorist. “Their arrest followed a swift intervention after the motorist contacted a Taskforce officer, who confirmed they were impostors before their detention,” he said. Operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command attached to the Anti-Robbery Section have arrested two notorious armed robbery suspects, Kabiru Isah and Monday Bulus, who had been on the command’s wanted list for their alleged involvement in several robbery operations across the state. The suspects were arrested on January 10, 2026, at about 10:00 pm, following credible intelligence.
