Former Enugu State Governor and Senator representing Enugu East, Dr Chimaroke Nnamani has lost his re-election bid to the Labour Party candidate, Kelvin Chukwu. The LP candidate polled 69, 136 while Nnamani of the Peoples Democratic Party, scored 48, 701 votes. Chukwu replaced his brother, Oyibo Chukwu, who was gruesomely murdered a few days before the February 25, presidential and National Assembly elections. Six persons were feared missing when gunmen attacked six Hummer buses carrying officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Kogi State in the early hours of Sunday. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the incident, which occurred around 2 am on March 19 at Obajana, left several officials with gunshot wounds, including policemen and drivers. The six missing persons include two serving members of the National Youth Service Corps and four ex-corps members. The police in Rivers State said it had launched a full-scale investigation into the circumstances leading to the abduction and killing of the All Progressives Congress Campaign Coordinator in Ahoada-West Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chisom Lennard. The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the attack on the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission and some ad hoc staff by armed hoodlums in the state.
