Amnesty International has condemned the killing of Usman Buda at a market in Sokoto over alleged blasphemy. Buda, a butcher was said to have made the comment during an argument with another trader at the Sokoto main abattoir at about 8 a.m. on Sunday. He was subsequently mobbed and killed. Governor Bassey Otu has summoned all cruise boat operators, along with the management of Marina Resort and the Cross River State Tourism Bureau (CRSTB), to his office over Saturday’s boat tragedy, which claimed the lives of three medical students. At least 100 farmers reportedly suffered losses over the weekend when their farms were invaded by quelea birds in Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State. Quelea birds are dangerous parasites capable of wiping out a whole farm within a day or even a few hours.
