Two persons were killed while two others sustained varying degrees of injuries when a tanker exploded at the Agu-Awka axis of Awka on the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway. The tanker loaded with diesel exploded and began to burn when it collided with a truck carrying bags of animal feeds at 11:26 p.m. on Thursday. Confirming the incident, the Chief Fire Officer of Anambra State Fire Service, Chukwudi Chiketa, said the injured victims were rushed to a hospital for medical attention. The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Gombe State University branch, has suspended its planned total and indefinite strike, giving the state government and university management until October 2026 to implement agreements reached with the union. The decision was contained in a resolution issued by the union after its congress meeting on Friday, August 21, 2026. Two children were feared dead and several others hospitalised after a heavy downpour triggered building collapses and flooding in Gandun Sarki community, Malam Madori Local Government Area of Jigawa State. The downpour, which lasted for more than an hour last Thursday night, ripped through parts of Hadejia Senatorial District, leaving a trail of destruction across homes and farmlands. Reports gathered from the area indicated that more than 20 houses collapsed during the rain.
