A suspected fighter linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has surrendered to troops of the 192 Battalion in Gwoza Local Government Area. Security sources said the man surrendered around 12:35 pm on May 7 while soldiers were carrying out picketing duties along the Gwoza–Limankara road. According to Zagazola Makama on X, the suspect told troops that he escaped from the Drume terrorist camp located around the Mandara Mountains area. A peace meeting between local residents and members of the Fulani community in Pankshin Local Government Area turned violent on Thursday, leaving one person dead and five others injured after some youths allegedly attempted to seize weapons from soldiers providing security at the gathering. According to security sources quoted by Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred around 3 pm on May 7 in Mier village. One suspect, whose identities could not be immediately confirmed, has been arrested in connection with the abduction of a Fulani herdsman based in Ijebu Jesa, Osun State, named Yahaya Sulaiman. The victim has, however, regained freedom after payment of an undisclosed amount as ransom. The PUNCH reports that some gunmen had abducted Sulaiman and demanded a sum of N70million in ransom before his release.
