Suspected armed bandits have abducted 13 residents of Tangaram Village in the Wasagu District of Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State following a midnight attack on the community. Residents said the attackers stormed the village at about 1:00am on Sunday, firing sporadically into the air before breaking into homes and whisking victims away toward the Zamfara border. The Kebbi State Police Command on Monday confirmed the abduction, saying the victims remain in captivity while rescue operations continue across the area. The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, has said Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, was cleared by the party’s screening committee before voluntarily withdrawing from the party’s governorship primary. A civil society group, Kimpact Development Initiative (KDI), has launched an online platform for tracking human rights violations. The Executive Director of KDI, Bukola Idowu, said at the launch on Friday that the the platform, ‘Naija Civic Space,’ was borne out of the need to “move civic space conversation from isolated reports to structured evidence, from concern to action, and from silence to visibility.” Mr Idowu said the platforms came against the backdrop of increased violations, especially insecurity bedevilling the country. A faction of Malabu Oil & Gas Ltd has filed a N1 trillion suit against the federal government over the splitting of the Oil Prospecting Licence (OPL) 245.
