The National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) on Thursday disclosed plans to host a national summit on elite consensus in the first quarter of 2026. NILDS’s Director-General, Abubakar Sulaiman, made this known during the public presentation of the National Survey Report and Commissioned Papers on Elite Consensus Development in Nigeria. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been drawn into a new legal dispute following the defection of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, to the All Progressives Congress (APC). A PDP member in Delta State has approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking a declaration that the governor’s defection is unconstitutional while he continues to hold office. Four persons in Bundu-Kahugu community, in Lere local Government Area of Kaduna State, have been killed in an attack by yet to be identified gunmen. The attack, which occurred on Wednesday night, threw the usually peaceful community into mourning. Those killed were identified as Apolos Emmanuel, 19; Wilas Yahaya, 25; Darius Sunday, 12; Nehemiah Jonathan, 25. Seven other residents sustained gunshot injuries during the attack. Nigeria’s indigenous energy firm, Heirs Energy, has secured a $750m financing facility from the African Export-Import Bank to scale up its oil and gas operations. The deal is expected to lift crude oil production to about 100,000 barrels per day and gas output to roughly 250 million cubic metres.
