The World Health Organisation (WHO) has warned that a new variant of influenza virus is spreading fast but expressed hope that vaccination remains the “most effective defence”. The Chairman of the House Committee on Nutrition and Food Security, Chike Okafor, has warned that a bench warrant of arrest may be issued against the Managing Director of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA), Ayo Sontinrin, and the Director-General of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN), Abubakar Dabban, if they fail to appear before the committee. The factional Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dissolved the executives of 14 state chapters of the party and announced plans to conduct fresh congresses in January 2026. The Hisbah Board in Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State in a co-ordinated raid, has arrested several men and women at a house allegedly used for immoral acts including suspected sexual activities amongst unmarried youths.  The raid took place on December 17, 2025, around 9:30 p.m., the board’s Information Officer Malam Abdullahi Muntari revealed in a statement. A non-governmental organisation, the Science Olympiad Nigeria, has trained teachers in Ondo State ahead of the 2026 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics tournament in Nigeria. The training, which took place at St. Peter’s Secondary School, Akure, brought together 46 teachers from 12 secondary schools across the state. A senior officer of the Ghana Police Service has said that denying one’s spouse sexual relations could amount to emotional abuse and attract a jail term under the country’s domestic violence laws. The Assistant Commissioner of Police, Dennis Fiakpui, disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Thursday. Ondo State Police Command has arrested four suspects for allegedly assaulting officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps and causing malicious damage to their property. The incident occurred on December 16, 2025, along the Akure–Ipetu Road at the FUTA axis, where FRSC officers led by Fadimo Abiola were performing their lawful duties.
