The Independent National Electoral Commission has commenced an examination of its records to determine how names allegedly unknown to the Nigeria Democratic Congress appeared on the party’s list of candidates for the 2027 general elections. The move followed allegations by the NDC that names of candidates it neither nominated nor authorised were uploaded and published as its candidates in several state House of Assembly constituencies, particularly in Anambra State. Only 56 of the 113 primary schools are functioning in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, where about 80 students abducted during attacks on their schools in May and June remain in captivity, the local education authority has told PREMIUM TIMES. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission recovered N1.23tn, $684.47m and other foreign currencies in proceeds of crime and secured 10,872 convictions in the first 34 months of Ola Olukoyede’s tenure as chairman. Olukoyede disclosed this on Monday while presenting his three-year stewardship report at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja. He said the commission received 49,673 petitions between October 2023 and July 2026, investigated 39,615 cases and filed 14,476 cases in court, resulting in 10,872 convictions.
