From a teenage NPFL standout to Nigeria’s most-capped player, Ahmed Musa made his mark in Nigerian football even while his role was questioned. ABIODUN ADEWALE writes on his 15-year journey in the Nigerian national team Whether by sheer coincidence or a rude awakening, two things come to mind about Ahmed Musa’s retirement. The first is the recent retirement of his vice-captain, William Troost-Ekong, and the second is the ongoing debate over who should become the next Super Eagles captain. Troost-Ekong’s decision to retire before Musa doesn’t necessarily carry much significance. But the second likely played a pivotal role in his…

The 28-year-old was stopped in the sixth round after failing to beat the referee’s count, having been dropped repeatedly as Joshua’s sustained pressure finally overwhelmed him.
