The Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arraigned three persons before the Federal High Court in Maiduguri over an alleged N42 million contract fraud. The defendants, Aisha Alkali Wakil, Sa’idu Tahiru Daura and Prince Lawal Shoyede, were arraigned on Thursday before Justice Jude K. Dagat on a two-count amended charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence. The Lagos State High Court sitting at Igbosere on Thursday admitted in evidence Benjamin Nnayereugo, popularly known as “Killaboi”’s written statement and a video recording of his interrogation. Killaboi is standing trial over the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Augusta Onuwabhagbe. The statement and video recording were admitted in evidence, while an investigating police officer from the State Criminal Investigation Department, DSP Oderinde Gafar, testified in the ongoing murder trial of Nnayereugo. Except for its motto and morality, there is hardly anything wrong with the Nigeria Police Force. If burnished in the furnace of grammar, the statement, “Police is your friend,” which is the motto of the Nigeria Police, is wrong because ‘police’ is a plural noun, and so, cannot legally coexist with ‘is’, a singular tense.
