A former Bayelsa Senator, Ben Murray-Bruce, has commended President Bola Tinubu and the nation’s security agencies following the successful rescue of pupils and teachers abducted in Oyo State.
The media mogul described the operation as a demonstration of effective leadership, intelligence and professionalism.
Reacting in a post on his verified X handle on Friday, Murray-Bruce said the safe return of the victims underscored what could be achieved through coordinated security efforts.
“The successful rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State is a remarkable achievement and a testament to what can be accomplished when leadership, intelligence, and professionalism come together,” he wrote.
He praised President Tinubu for what he described as his commitment to the security of Nigerians and singled out the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, for coordinating the country’s security architecture.
He said, “I commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his steadfast commitment to the security of Nigerians and offer special praise to the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, whose coordination of our security architecture continues to deliver tangible results. I also salute the DSS and all the security personnel involved in this operation.”
Murray-Bruce added that the successful rescue deserved national recognition and encouragement.
“Every child returned safely to their family is a victory for our nation. This is the kind of success that deserves recognition and encouragement.”
His comments followed the Presidency’s confirmation that the abducted pupils and teachers had been rescued alive during a coordinated security operation.
As earlier reported by PUNCH Online, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said eight suspected kidnappers were arrested while several others were killed during the operation.
According to Onanuga, the rescue was carried out without negotiations or concessions to the abductors, despite their demand for the release of one of their detained leaders.
“In the course of the rescue operation, eight of the kidnappers were arrested and are now in DSS custody, while some of them were neutralised.
“There was no quid pro quo in the rescue as one of the terrorists, a kingpin, that the kidnappers demanded his release, is being prosecuted for his atrocities. The security agencies will give full account soon.,” Onanuga said.
Following their rescue, the pupils and teachers expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and the security agencies. In a video released by the Presidency, one of the victims thanked the President for his efforts to secure their freedom.
“We are grateful, Mr President, sir. We understand your commitment to our safety, and we appreciate all you did for us. We could see it in your heart. Thank you very much,” the victim said.
President Tinubu and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde also welcomed the successful operation and commended the security agencies for rescuing the victims safely.
