President Bola Tinubu has welcomed former Sokoto State governorship candidate, Sa’idu Umar Ubandoma, back to the All Progressives Congress, describing his return as a positive development for the party.
Ubandoma was received by the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday night after being presented by the APC leader in Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, following his recent defection to the ruling party.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Aliyu Tukur on behalf of Ubandoma, Tinubu expressed delight over the former governorship candidate’s decision to rejoin the APC and assured him of his support and full integration into the party.
“I am delighted to welcome you back to the APC. You have my support, and you will be fully integrated into the party,” Tinubu was quoted as saying.
The President also urged Ubandoma to maintain a close working relationship with Wamakko and Sokoto State Governor, Aliyu Sokoto, to strengthen the party in the state.
“Sustain your close working relationship with Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko and Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto as we continue to strengthen the APC and consolidate the progress already recorded,” the President said.
The statement described the meeting as cordial and productive, noting that discussions focused on consolidating the APC’s fortunes in Sokoto State and fostering greater unity within the party.
Ubandoma recently defected from the African Democratic Congress to the APC after a brief stint in the opposition party.
The former Commissioner for Finance and former Secretary to the Sokoto State Government was the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate in the 2023 general election before later joining the ADC and subsequently returning to the APC.
