A total of 202 suspects, comprising 102 males and 100 females, have been arrested by operatives of the Delta State Police Command for offences bordering on operating brothels, possession and sale of suspected illicit drugs, and other related crimes.
PUNCH Online gathered that the intelligence-led operation, conducted on Saturday, also led to the impoundment of five motor vehicles, 10 tricycles and 10 motorcycles for traffic-related violations.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the operation in a statement signed on Sunday, saying it was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations, alongside officers of the command.
Edafe said that, “Acting on credible intelligence generated by the State Intelligence Department (SID), the operatives raided identified black spots, brothels and suspected illicit drug dens in Asaba metropolis.”
He said the intensified raid on identified criminal hideouts and black spots within Asaba metropolis was part of the command’s sustained crackdown on criminal activities across the state.
The statement read, “The operation resulted in the arrest of 202 suspects, comprising 102 males and 100 females, for offences bordering on operating brothels, possession and sale of suspected illicit drugs, and other related crimes.
“The operatives also impounded five (5) motor vehicles, ten (10) tricycles, and ten (10) motorcycles for violations of extant traffic regulations, the state-imposed restriction on tricycle operations, and the ban on motorcycles in designated areas.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, re-emphasised “the Command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and sustained enforcement operations against all forms of criminality.”
The police commissioner assured residents that “the Command will continue to deny criminal elements the space to operate” and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support the police with credible and timely information.
